Tea Time With Jesse

Six of One, Half Dozen the Other

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah

Blogs are hard when you have nothing to say.

And blogs are hard when there is too much to say.

There is just so much going on right now, worthy of comment, that I feel dizzy.

RIP Geraldine Ferraro. You were (are) more important than Liz Taylor, yet she gets a blog post and you get a blah post. Let us always remember this exchange from your campaign: Farmer in audience trying to make a sexist point, “Can you make blueberry muffins?” Ferraro, “Yes, can you?”

Global Warming – it’s so political, they now have independent skeptical third parties look at the data, …cause…you know…climate scientists are not real scientists. But physicists are! Independent Berkeley physicists are finding the same results. The earth is warming. An’ they’re cool cause they know atoms and math an’ shit. Read to bottom of the article to learn why this new group is out of their depth.

Another privacy breach. Some mysterio company named Epsilon is hacked. They collect personal data on all of us. One interesting take-away from news on the hack is that most companies do not handle their own email – they farm it out to Epsilon:

[…] nearly all companies do it; very few handle e-mail relationships in-house, said Dave Franklin, a Forrester analyst who studies electronic marketing.  Firms like Epsilon — and competitors like Acxiom and Merkle — offer far more than mere e-mail services.  [They] offers broad customer relationship management services, including transaction processing and analytics. That means Epsilon is capable of tracking e-mail response rates, mapping them to in-store purchase decisions and demographic information, and analyzing the data with a host of other advanced marketing tools. [emphasis mine]

Obama is running for 20112. How do we feel about him lately? One salient argument against the Tea Party is that they bitch about Obama’s administration for things – mostly financial – that are worrisome, but where the hell were they when Bush was doing the same deficit-expanding, imperial-presidency shit? So, to take a lesson, I need to be more critical now, while my guy is in office, so that I am not the same dirtbag hypocrite the tea baggers, ooops, tea racists, oops, tea partiers are.

I’m (likely) near you on Obama. I’m deeply disappointed that he’s turned out to be the great compromiser; on tax cuts for the rich, on illegal detentions, on illegal war-making, etc, etc. It seems like he’s decided he needs to tow the line with the special interests and lobbies that get people elected (and re-elected). But that being said, the alternative (forgoing a democratic challenger) is a nightmare that is too horrible to contemplate. Needless to say, I plan on voting 3rd party in the 2012 pres. election unless there is a danger that Obama would actually lose to one of the nutjobs the Republicans are (almost) certain to put up there – in which case I’ll reluctantly give Obama the nod.
